We could be in for a Canucks jersey shortage

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s not just the playoff tickets that are hard to come by, it looks like Canucks jerseys are also in limited supply. Many stores are already sold out, with no new shipments on the way.

Jamie Thornthwaite with the Sports Exchange on Burrard says it’s a matter of limited supply and it’s already affecting their margins.

“Nobody ever wants to get stuck with too many jerseys or too many T-shirts, and the supplier just isn’t able to get any more product. We’re down to our last three men’s jerseys on hand, and they are all extra large.”

Their store is scrambling to ship more jerseys from as far away as Ontario to satisfy the demand here.

Thornthwaite says they can’t jack up the prices to compensate, because they need to stay competitive.

Crystal Currie with Sport Chek in Burnaby says they are in a similar situation.

“We’re actually pulling in stuff from the East Coast stores into our locations, but we are not getting a big shipment of jerseys at all.”

She says Canucks gear makes up for half of their store sales right now, which is welcome news in the post-Olympic year.
