Marino moves up in the rankings, shows Canucks pride

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver tennis star Rebecca Marino has moved up 15 spots to No. 45 in the latest world tennis rankings.  The 20-year-old Marino had her run at the French Open come to an end last Friday  with a 6-0, 6-4 loss to Svetlana Kuznetsova in the third round.  It was the furthest the former Magee student had ever made it at a Grand Slam event.

Marino is also in the top 50 for the first time in her career. She won her opening round match today in women’s singles at the AEGON Classic in Birmingham, England where she Tweeted today that she brought her Canucks hat with her, so she can cheer on the Canucks tonight when they skate against Boston in Game 3.

Caroline Wozniacki remains the top-ranked women’s player in the world while Rafael Nadal’s record-tying sixth French Open title has helped him hold onto his No. 1 ranking.
