Paramedics increase staffing during playoff run

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The BC Ambulance Service says it has staffing levels similar to the Olympics during this Stanley Cup playoff run.  But medical attention seems to vary depending on each game night.

Superintendent Mike Binns says on Saturday they were stretched to the limit.  “But last night it was very different.  We shut down our operations very early.  But on an average about 15 to 30 extra calls per night just in the Granville, Hamilton, Georgia Street area.”

Most of the calls have to do with alcohol.

“A lot of them are trips and falls, that sort of stuff, a few assaults, but mostly all are well behaved. We have not had a single incident of anyone abusing our paramedics.  If anything we all have high-five-elbow from high-fiving everyone in the crowds.”

Ambulance bike and gator squads have also been on hand to help with the crowds.
