News1130 reminds Canucks fans to celebrate responsibly

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Managers at radio stations around Metro Vancouver are asking fans to remember the Olympic experience, regardless of what happens tonight.

Geoff Poulton with Rogers Radio — our parent company — says no one wants a repeat of the 1994 Stanley Cup riots, and wants the city to be able to wake up tomorrow proud of how both fans and players carried themselves.

“We’re all proud of the Canucks and what they’ve done, no matter what the outcome,” he says, “but all the eyes of the country are on us, so we should remind everybody to celebrate responsibly.

“Have fun, for sure, but celebrate responsibly.”

After the Canucks’  notorious 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers in Game 7 of the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals, over 50,000 people converged on downtown Vancouver and chaos erupted. The riots caused over $1 million in damage, and around 200 people were injured.
