BC schools go solar

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) –  Harnessing the power of the sun. Eleven schools in BC have been awarded grants to install new solar panels.

There were more than 50 applications and Julia Roberts with Solar BC helped says students have been incredibly enthusiastic about the project. “It’s something they should encounter in the future. We’re tying it to curriculum in the school; students can go onto the website and see how much energy their panel is generating on any given day.”

The grants are worth $20,000 each, although it might cost a little bit more for the schools to get the panels running.

The province says hundreds of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions will be saved, the equivalent of taking 140 cars off BC roads.
