VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Lots of events happening this weekend around the Lower Mainland.

Showcasing the talents of homegrown artists and notable musicians from around the world, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival gets underway today.  It is the biggest music festival in BC. Over the next ten days, more than 1,800 musicians, including Colin James and Wynton Marsalis, will play 400 concerts.

On Saturday night, check out The Cheaper Show. It’s the 10th anniversary, featuring 400 highly curated pieces of art from 200 international artists, all priced at $200 for one night only.

In the mood for a little ouzo? How about some saganaki? Sunday is Greek Day on Broadway. The street will be shutdown from Macdonald to Blenheim to make room for everything Greek and about 100,000 people. There will be kiosks, music and entertainment throughout the day.

Also on Sunday, there’s the Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon. It starts at 7:00am at UBC Thunderbird Arena and finishes in Stanley Park. There will be some road closures, so make sure to keep it locked on News1130 for traffic updates every ten minutes on the ones.

Bard On The Beach continues through September. The professional Shakespeare festival brings to life the magic of Shakespeare’s great plays on the waterfront in Vanier Park.
