Ford a no-show at Pride kick-off

TORONTO – While the rainbow flag was hoisted at Nathan Phillips Square Monday, Mayor Rob Ford got booed for not taking part in Pride Week’s flag-raising ceremony.

Every time the mayor’s name was mentioned, the crowd erupted in to huge jeers and boos.

With chants of “he’s not our mayor” and “he doesnt speak for us.”

Ford has been criticized for opting out of Sunday’s Pride parade, which falls on Canada Day weekend.  Ford plans to spend time with his family at the cottage.

Former mayor Barbara Hall said Ford needs to take part in Pride Week.

“I think he’s missing on so many different grounds an incredible opportunity to enjoy the city and all of its citizens,” Hall said.

Ford is not expected to take part in any pride events this week.
