Designated smoking areas may be coming to Metro parks

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you want to smoke in Metro Vancouver parks or beaches, you may soon have to look for an area to do so. Designated puffing zones may soon be set up near you.

The Metro Park Board is set to vote on July 24th, says Pitt Meadows Mayor Don Maclean. “When you enter a park, at the entrance it may have a sign… something like ‘For the comfort of our users and for fire hazard… please only smoke in designated areas.'”

He believes this decision is a better compromise than an all-out smoking ban. “I find that the great majority of them are very conscious, and they make sure that they don’t cause discomfort for other people that don’t smoke.”

“You speak of the times… maybe that is where we are going,” he adds. “Hopefully, in the future we won’t have to talk about smoking because it may no longer exist.”
