Queen of Nanaimo expected to resume service Sunday

TSAWWASSEN (NEWS1130) – The Queen of Nanaimo has been pulled after having a hard docking in Tsawwassen Friday night, but service is expected to resume Sunday.

No cars were damaged and no one was hurt.  The disruption is affecting people on the Tsawwassen to Southern Gulf Islands route.

Deb Marshall with BC Ferries says for now passengers are being rerouted via the Swartz Bay terminal.

“Our welders continue to work throughout the evening on the Queen of Nanaimo, they are repairing a weld,” explains Marshall. “We do expect the vessel to resume service tomorrow morning for her regularly scheduled sailing, and that would be at 7:15 am, exit Saltspring Island.”

Marshall adds there are no guarantees until the repairs are complete, so that first sailing could be delayed by an hour or two.

An investigation into the cause of the crash has been launched.
