Saturday was the last day of the royal couple’s tour in Ottawa, but they made it memorable.

Will and Kate attended a ceremony honouring Canada’s veterans and war brides Saturday afternoon.

The Royal Couple were greeted by screaming fans outside the Canadian War Museum.

The crowd, which started building at 11 in the morning, had grown to about 400 people by the time the royals arrived.

Many people said they didn’t see Will and Kate on Canada Day and were hoping to meet the couple before they left.

“I thought this morning that if I came here since it’s the last day, maybe everyone’s seen them already,” laughed Joseanne. “I have more of a chance right?”

After a quick smile and wave, the pair headed inside to participate in a ceremony honouring Canada’s veterans and war brides.

Before the ceremony began, the royal couple spent over half an hour  walking around the room greeting attendees.

Ida Crocker, a veteran who attended the ceremony, said she felt a strong connection the Dutchess.

“It was a wonderful experience,” said Crocker. “I’ve never met anyone from the royal family before – she’s the first one.”

Another veteran, Jesse, said she couldn’t believe how much time the royal couple spent with everyone.

“They spent so long with us,” she said. “It was lovely.”

Many of the veterans said  they were pleasantly surprised by how “down to earth” the couple is.
