Convicted murderer sentenced to 25 years with no parole

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Jamie Cliff has been sentenced to 25 years without parole for murdering his ex-girlfriend and her roommate.

The defence says it appears Cliff went into a rage when he murdered Lana Christopherson and Andrew Gawley in 2008, before dousing Gawley with gas and setting him afire.

They say Cliff suffered a tough upbringing and was already convicted of manslaughter, something the jury in this case didn’t know about.

His lawyer suggests he didn’t deliberately plan to kill Christopherson and Gawley.  He argues Cliff left his computer and clothing at Christopherson’s East Vancouver apartment, which were items that could easily identify Cliff.

The defence asked for Cliff to serve up to 18 years behind bars, before being allowed to apply for parole.  Crown Counsel asked for the maximum 25 year sentence.
