Royal couple faceoff in Yellowknife street hockey tourney

YELLOWKNIFE (NEWS1130) – Prince William played a little street hockey and his wife dropped the ball in a ceremonial face-off as they continued their royal visit in Yellowknife.

Earlier, William delighted a crowd of thousands when he said the North defines Canada.

“He seems to be a very stand-up man with a very beautiful wife, that’s for sure!  I’ve never seen royalty before and it’s just awesome,” says one of hundreds of people who turned up to see the happy couple.

The two will spend just 36 hours in the territory, which has a history of visits from the royal family. Before they jet off to their next stop, Alberta, Will and Kate will also take part in a canoe excursion and enjoy a prayer and drum song.

This morning it was announced that Prince William and Kate will visit Slave Lake, Alberta, before beginning a 24-hour private break at an undisclosed location. The northern town was heavily damaged by a wildfire in May.

More than 400 homes and businesses were destroyed by the blaze and the town is in the process of re-building.

The couple will fly to Slave Lake on Wednesday morning where they’ll meet with locals for two hours.

On Friday, the last day of their nine-day Canadian tour, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be at the Calgary Stampede.
