New tenants boost struggling Vancouver malls

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you Google the International Village on Pender Street, the review aren’t great.  One person says it’s “disappointing” to walk around.

But there is some good news for a couple of struggling retail centres around Vancouver.  The white elephants could soon see a big boost in business.

For a long time, the main draw at the International Village has been the third floor theatre, but the handful of new stores that recently moved in could attract a lot more shoppers.

Over the past 18 months, the mall has doubled its tenancy, leaving only restaurant spaces unoccupied.

The Village on False Creek is also expecting some new anchor tenants.  London Drugs and Urban Fare will be moving in next year.

Kevin Brennan, senior vice-president at Ernst & Young, tells the 24 Hours Newspaper that these long-term commercial leases represent a major vote of confidence for The Village on False Creek.
