Search launched for British newlweds missing in BC

SMITHERS (NEWS1130) – They were supposed to catch a flight in Vancouver last week, but two British newlyweds haven’t been seen since they borrowed a family member’s truck to do some exploring in Northern BC.

They had plans to do some backcountry camping and eventually head toward Alaska.

Sergeant Rob Vermeulen says no one has made contact with Caroline and Ben Davies since June 22nd.

“A black pick-up truck and they headed up north in the direction of Alaska.  Their last phone calls were made from Smithers and they mentioned they had planned on renting some kayaks and meeting up with someone they met in the area.”

That’s all the information police have right now.

“At this point we don’t have a lot. The key for us is to try and determine a possible location for them or even a direction of travel so we can start looking for them.”

Vermeulen says they are now trying to find that person as well as look through cell phone records and banking information.

“They were experienced outdoors people, so it wasn’t unusual for them to go off into the rough somewhere. But the fact that they haven’t been in touch with family obviously does raise some concerns.”

Caroline is described as 28-years-old, 5’3″ tall, 120 lbs., with brown shoulder length curly hair and brown eyes. Ben is described as 37-years-old, 5’11” tall, 210 lbs., with an athletic build and brown short hair.

The vehicle they were travelling in is a 2008 black Mazda B230 pick-up truck with BC License Plate AL-6943.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen the two or their vehicle to please call Smithers RCMP at 250.847.3233 immediately.
