Slight dip in Fraser Valley mumps cases

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Mumps cases are down just slightly in the Fraser Valley, but concerns over the outbreak haven’t disappeared just yet.  “We are seeing just over two dozen cases of mumps over the last month in the Fraser Valley,” says Dr. Paul Van Buynder with the Fraser Health Authority.

He says within his region, most mumps cases have appeared in Burnaby, New Westminster and Surrey.

“I’m not sure whether the hopeful decrease in cases last week means it’s under control.  Certainly by the end of this week we will have a better understanding of how well we’ve done in getting people to get themselves out there to get their second vaccine shot.”

Van Buynder continues to encourage anyone who hasn’t had two doses of the vaccine and is under the age of 54 to check in with their doctor about getting vaccinated.
