Vancouver no longer has highest cost of living

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – We’re number two!  Vancouver is no longer the Canadian city with the highest cost of living, according to a new survey by consulting firm Mercer.

Toronto now ranks as the 59th most expensive city in the world, while Vancouver ranks six places lower.  The Big Smoke moved up 17 places higher than last year due to “relatively high” rental housing costs.

“Toronto and Vancouver are actually quite close in the rankings.  Vancouver has gone up a little bit in the rankings and so has Toronto.  All of the Canadian cities have gone up as a result of the strength of the Canadian dollar relative to the US dollar,” says the company’s Eleana Rodriguez.

The survey says Ottawa is Canada’s cheapest city to live in, ranking 114th in the world.  The most expensive cities in the world in which to live are Luanda, Angola and Tokyo, Japan.
