Cougar shot, killed in South Okanagan

OLIVER (NEWS1130) – A apparently-domesticated cougar has been shot and killed in Oliver.

RCMP say the three to four-year-old animal was destroyed yesterday morning. They say the big cat was spotted in bushes near a popular jogging path south of the downtown core.

The cougar didn’t seem to be nervous of people. One Mountie was able to get within three metres of the animal and the decision was made to put it down.

Police say before the animal was shot, they ensured it wasn’t hiding any cubs nearby and wasn’t a nursing mother.
