VPD issues new list of Con Air candidates

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – They are not from here and Vancouver Police want to send them home.  The VPD Con Air program has released a new list of suspects living here.  There are roughly 364 people that have been identified by police who are living in Vancouver.

The program’s Inspector Ruben Sorge says it should be a crime to skip town and to avoid other charges.

“Right now there is no law in Canada, at least yet, that says you can’t flee a jurisdiction when you know you have a warrant for your arrest.  We think it needs to be a crime to leave a jurisdiction knowing that you have an outstanding warrant.”

“You would think it would be a given, I think in general the public thinks it is a given, but it isn’t,” adds Sorge.

In some cases, the warrants against the suspects on the list are only enforceable in the province they fled, some only have a 400 kilometre radius.

The program ships serious offenders living in local communities in BC back to their home province.  Some of the offences include: kidnapping, sex assault, robbery and extortion.
