EDMONTON AB (NEWS1130) – Forty-seven of the top Canadian junior hockey players have gathered in Edmonton today for the summer development camp.

Vancouver Giants head coach Don Hay is coaching Canada’s team, which will take part in the world junior hockey championships in Calgary and Edmonton in December. This will be Hay’s first look at the deep pool of talent he can select from, but no cuts will be made until a final selection camp in December.

Hay tells News1130 Sports he’s looking forward to watching Burnaby’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who was the Edmonton Oilers number one overall pick at the NHL draft in Minnesota in June.

Hay also has a member of his Giants WHL team in Edmonton, as forward Brendan Gallagher is attending his second Canadian junior camp. He did not make the squad last year.

The camp is five days long and wraps up with scrimmages at Rexall Place in Edmonton on Saturday night and in Fort McMurray on Sunday.
