Fire crews in Vancouver and Surrey kept busy overnight

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – People around Vancouver called our newsroom to say they could see flames shooting into the night sky in the neighbourhood of West 35th Avenue near Maple Street. Eight fire trucks were called out to a house fire that started in the garage just before midnight.

The fire quickly spread to a neighbouring fence at the other side of the laneway. When firefighters arrived, that fence was fully engulfed.

No one was hurt. The houses next door have been slightly damaged. For now, investigators are treating the fire as suspicious.

In Surrey, firefighters were called out to a home on 162nd Street and 90th Avenue around 9:00 pm Wednesday. The RCMP says an elderly woman was rescued from a large house fire and is expected to be okay. There’s still no word on what caused the blaze.
