VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Public Safety Minister Vic Toews says the federal government will not accept having its citizens intimidated.
Some Syrian-Canadians claim they’ve been threatened for speaking out against the Syrian regime’s bloody crackdown on protesters and believe Syrian government staff may be behind the threats.
“We as Canadians will not tolerate the interference by foreign governments into the expression of free speech,” says Toews. “Citizens who believe that their free speech is being interfered with by foreign entities or others should be making those complaints known to their local police department.”
Prime Minister Stephen Harper calls the government crackdown abhorrent and the UN has also condemned the attacks.
