VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC’s Attorney General has responded to criticism from the NDP over the lack of charges related to Vancouver’s riot in June, with the opposition suggesting the government is responsible for the slow pace.
Barry Penner says Crown is still waiting for recommendations from police. “But the NDP justice critic appears to need a refresher course in Law 101. It’s not for the Crown Counsel or the provincial government that investigates criminal matters. That’s up to the local police.”
“I understand the NDP is trying to play partisan politics, but it’s a bit of a stretch to say that the province is responsible for the investigations. That’s not true.”
Justice Critic Leonard Krog says seems to be a problem between the province, prosecutors, and police.
