Bear killed after found wandering near school in Maple Ridge

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – Another bear has been killed in Maple Ridge.

Conservation officers killed the animal after it wandered into a busy neighbourhood — right by a school. It had been living in a backyard and feeding from garbage cans for several weeks. This is the ninth bear killed in the city in last four months.

There was also a bear spotted in Langley yesterday and another one was seen wandering through the trails near Burnaby Lake.

Up the Sea to Sky, it’s a cougar, not bears causing concern. Several trails near Alice Lake — just outside of Squamish — have been shutdown. There have been three seperate incidents in which mountain bikers were approached by the cougar.

Dogs have been tracking the big cat for the last three days but still haven’t found it.
