Suspicious package found on Burnaby beach

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – A woman walking her dog on a north Burnaby Beach this afternoon was alarmed to come across a suspicious package.
Sgt. Stephan Brossard with Burnaby RCMP says police were called to the scene just off Penzance Drive around 5 p.m.
“There’s no public around there, so right now there’s no danger to public safety,” he says.
Brossard denies earlier scanner reports that it was one or more pipe bombs, but says Mounties are still in the process of determining exactly what it is.
The investigation is expected to wrap up sometime this evening.
