Canadians close in on clinching Olympic rowing berths

BLED, SLOVENIA (NEWS1130) – BC rowers are playing a big role in Canada’s effort to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics.  Three Canadian crews moved closer to qualifying for London today at the World Rowing Championships in Slovenia.

Richmond’s  Darcy Marquardt was part of the Canadian women’s eight which won its heat to qualify directly for the A final. Krista Guloien of Port Moody was also on Marquardt’s crew which placed fourth at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

In the only Olympic event for lightweight women, Lindsay Jennerich and Patricia Obee, both of Victoria took their heat to advance to the semifinals.  

Another BC rower, Kevin Light of Sidney was part of the Canadian men’s coxed pair, which placed third in their heat and will row in a repechage.
