Driver in girl’s jet ski death was her brother: police

By

WEST KELOWNA (NEWS1130) – Police say the operator of a jet ski involved in the death of a 10-year-old Alberta girl on Lake Okanagan was her 18-year-old brother.

Sgt. Ann Morrison of the Kelowna RCMP says the girl was from St. Albert and that the teenaged driver is from Kelowna.

He was expected to be released from hospital Monday.

Two people in a second boat involved in the crash were not injured.

Investigators are continuing to attempt to get more details about what happened and are working with Transport Canada and the B.C. Coroners Service.

Police are reminding boaters to be mindful of speed and to take into consideration the glare of the sun, traffic levels and their own ability on the water.
