Substitute teachers won't assist during teachers' strike

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you think substitute teachers will pick up the slack during teacher job action this fall, think again.  Teachers on call are also part of the BC Teachers’ Federation, and as such, honour picket lines.

“Many of them would have taken part in voting in June to take this action. We have been informing ‘teachers on call’ that they won’t be doing administrative tasks if they’re asked by principals,” says Chris Harris, the president of the Vancouver Elementary School Teachers’ Association.

And new ‘teachers on call’ are being briefed as well. “The Vancouver School Board has just hired new ‘teachers on call.’ Yesterday, the president of the Secondary School Teachers’ Association and I met with those teachers and filled them in on the job action.”
