CRESTON (NEWS1130) – Two brothers wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for a series of gas station robberies in Alberta have been arrested in the East Kootenays.

The two had been walking along the highway that runs to the US border when an off-duty Canadian border agent spotted them around 9 a.m.

“The pair were still dressed in camouflage clothing at the time,” says the RCMP’s Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.”Our officers attended the scene quite rapidly and arrested the two without incident but we did not recover any firearms.”

Ian and Michael Butz are now in the custody of Creston RCMP and they’ll be sent back to Alberta soon. A list of recommended charges will be forwarded to Crown counsel.
