RCMP catch break in 28-year cold case

CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) – Ten-year-old Jo-Anne Pederson disappeared in 1983, and so far, the RCMP haven’t been able to find a trace of her. An unsigned letter delivered to them last week might hold the key to finally finding her.

The letter was in a plain white envelope, was handwritten, and had no return address, says Corporal Tammy Hollingsworth. “We have no indication who this person might be — male or female, what their involvement is or was in the investigation.”

The girl was last seen at a Chilliwack convenience store, at a payphone just after 8 p.m., trying to get a hold of her parents because she was locked out of her home. By the time her parents arrived at the store, she was gone.

Police believe whoever delivered the letter knows a lot more including information about a man in a telephone booth with her when she was trying to call home.

Hollingsworth says Jo-Anne’s parents have no closure. They just want to find out what happened to their little girl.
