Air Canada faces job action

By

MONTREAL (NEWS1130) – Air Canada’s flight attendants have given their strike notice and could be off the job as early as Wednesday. The notification was delivered to a federal mediator Friday evening, and sets the clock ticking for a showdown between 6,000 flight attendants and Air Canada.

There’s still a possibility that the two sides can reach a deal ahead of the deadline.   Earlier in the day, federal Labour Minister Lisa Raitt said she would call both sides for a meeting in Ottawa if no deal was reached by the weekend.

“We are still at the table talking, and we remain hopeful that we can achieve a settlement without disruption,” says Angelia Mah with Air Canada.

She insists the airline is prepared if there is a strike.  “Should it come to that, Air Canada will implement a partial schedule, with the help of our partner airlines.”

Air Canada won’t charge passengers who want to change flights because of the possible job action.
