Fences could soon separate Canada and US

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Supporters say it would be a way to stop criminals and terrorists from sneaking across the border; the Americans are considering a fence along part of the 49th parallel.
The US Customs and Border Protection Agency has proposed fencing and other barriers along notorious trouble spots, where slipping across the border illegally is not as hard as it could be.
The agency is also looking at including a higher technological presence in some places, but Canadians News1130 has spoken to aren’t sure about fences.
“I think it’s to create more fear, personally,” says one man.
“Fence what? What are you fencing in?” one woman questions. “What do you want to keep in? What do you want to keep out?
US Customs and Border Protection is looking at its options; a series of meetings in Washington and several American border towns will field public opinion next month.
