Canadian oncologist Dr. Robert Buckman dies at age 63

TORONTO, Ont. – Renowned Canadian oncologist Robert Buckman has passed away at age 63.

He died in his sleep on Sunday while on board a transcontinental flight from London to Toronto.

The news will not only shock the community of oncologists worldwide, but especially those affiliated with Princess Margaret Hospital and the entire Toronto health network, of which he was very much a part.

Dr. Buckman was known for his remarkably unorthodox ability to understand what those living with cancer are feeling and thinking, and then to communicate with them — from diagnosis through treatment — often using humour as the first medicine.

He was the author of 14 books, was in high demand as a speaker internationally and has provided health segments dealing with cancer on 680News.com.
