RIM unveils new operating system for its next-generation BlackBerry

Just days after the worst service outage in its history, Research In Motion has unveiled a new operating system.

The new operating system called BBX is for RIM’s next-generation BlackBerry smartphones and will enable them to better compete with Apple and Android devices.

BBX is based on the operating system in RIM’s Playbook tablet,.

Dr. Nick Bontis, a professor at the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University, told 680News the successful launch of this new system is critical for RIM.

“In simple terms, the launch BBX system is a make it or break it for RIM. We know they’ve been having troubles lately. They had the outage,” said Bontis.

The new BlackBerry smartphones are expected to be more like mobile computers and will be launched early next year.
