SUNRISE, FL (NEWS1130) – Evander Kane’s second goal of the night came with just 50 seconds left in the game and it sent his Winnipeg Jets to overtime as they took a 4-3 decision over the Florida Panthers in a shootout.
Kane batted the puck out of the air and past Jose Theodore to tie it at 3-3. The goal was reviewed for a possible high-stick but it counted. The Jets got goals from Kyle Wellwood and Andrew Ladd in the shootout for the victory.
Kane, a native of Vancouver, scored his first goal on a first period powerplay which gave Winnipeg a 2-0 lead after Wellwood had opened the scoring earlier.
Jason Garrison got a goal back for the Panthers with 20 seconds left in the opening frame, and it stayed 2-1 until Thomas Fleischmann scored 3:13 into the third period to tie it.
Fleischmann then gave the Panthers their first lead of the game when he scored his second of the night with just 2:10 remaining in the game. Kane’s equalizer came just 1:20 later.
Kane’s two goals gave the former Vancouver Giant four on the season. That gives him 37 goals in 148 career games which have all been played with the Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets franchise.
