Hundreds in Lower Mainland undergoing health tests

By

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS1130) – A series of health tests are underway for a few hundred people in Burnaby and Coquitlam for Statistics Canada to add to its national health database. News1130 is looking into the mobile clinic and what kinds of samples will be drawn.

The data is confidential and the people who have been selected have the right to refuse taking part, according to Jeanine Bustros with the Physical Health Measures Division.

“People are interested to know the level of some of the contaminants… that they might find in their blood and urine,” she explains. “Mercury or lead… they also contribute in the knowledge of those contaminants throughout the country.”

Samples have been done throughout Canada. Body measurements, fitness tests, blood pressure, and lung function will also be looked at.

The data will go towards helping to create future health programs and policies.
