New website and series commemorates World War II

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The horrors of war should never be forgotten.  A new website called D-Day to Victory along with a History Television series of the same name aim to keep memories of the Second World War alive.

Veteran Bruce Melanson says he remembers landing on Juno Beach like it was yesterday.  “When I landed in Normandy on June 6th, 1944 bodies were still in the water.”

The 87-year-old says the memories are still with him.  “God forbid that those young people had to sacrifice their lives so that you and I and the rest of the world, Canadians could have their freedom.”

Veteran Bob Ross says he often thinks about the families who lost sons, husbands and fathers.  “People don’t understand that we had it tough as soldiers, but I always felt people who were left at home had it real sad, and I often think about it.”

The website includes 3D renderings of battles, 120 video interviews, and a forum for visitors to share their own memories.
