TORONTO, ON. (NEWS1130) – It’s World Diabetes Day and the federal government is taking action to help Canadians avoid Type 2 diabetes.
Today, Federal Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq unveiled a questionnaire that will allow people to see if they may be at risk of developing the disease. It can be found at Shoppers Drug Mart stores across the country.
“CANRISK is a simple tool to help Canadians understand if they are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes so they can make lifestyle changes before it’s too late.”
Approximately 2 million Canadians have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and many more are believed to be unaware that they have the disease. Complications can include: blindness, kidney and heart disease.
It’s estimated that by the year 2030 roughly 550 million people could have diabetes.
