Christmas lights before December: Is it too early?

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You may already see shops and houses decorated in Christmas cheer and are thinking it’s way too soon. But there are seasonal workers out there who don’t mind it at all.

Mark is the owner of a Lower Mainland lighting business; his job is to string up Christmas lights around Vancouver. He and his staff were putting up white bulbs, wrapping them around tree branches in the middle of the night to give a downtown Vancouver hotel a bit more sparkle.

But is it too early?

“Not for a guy like me who gets paid to do it!” says Mark. “No, I don’t think it’s ever too early; I wish it was Christmas all year long actually. Put ’em up, taken ’em down, works for me!”

Although he does struggle with a bit of an internal conflict with the idea of early festive decor. “I’m not a big believer in putting them up too early. I think the whole Christmas thing comes a little too early for me — all the songs, all the gear.”

Then once again, he has a change of heart, noting he needs the job to keep his family happy.

“How am I gonna buy Christmas presents, right?” Mark says with a grin.
