Blues fans say goodbye to Vancouver’s Yale pub

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s been entertaining blues fans for three decades, and now it’s closing. But Vancouver’s Yale pub will be back, with a revamped look.

The Yale Hotel is actually 130 years old, having opened back in 1880s as a CPR bunkhouse.

Patrons don’t seem don’t seem too worried about the renos changing its feel as a rhythm and blues club. “It’ll be nice to have a change. I’m expecting better lighting, better seating and it would be nice if they added food or something,” says one fan. “I’m sure that whoever is doing the renovations will be sensitive to its heritage,” says another.

“Hopefully when they remodel it, it’s not going to be all tacky-flash and they keep this nice old cozy feeling to it,” says a regular.

The owners promise the club will reopen sometime in early 2013. And patrons intend to come back because as one person put it “the music’s always good here.”
