Canadian soldiers who served in Libya honoured on Parliament Hill

Thursday morning, the men and women who served in the mission in Libya were honoured on Parliament Hill.

It started on the front lawn of centre block at 9:45 a.m. with dignitaries and soldiers who served in Libya receiving full military honours.

There was also a fly-by of aircraft that were used in the mission, including CF-18 fighter jets and sea king helicopters, expected to take place around 10 a.m.

Defence Minister Peter MacKay says it’s important Canadians thank our troops.

The ceremony continued inside the senate chambers. There were speeches from the Prime Minister, Chief of Defence staff and Lieutenant General Charles Bouchard who led the mission.

The reason there isn’t a ceremony for Afghanistan is that we still have soldiers serving there.
