Christmas card tradition may be going the way of the Grinch

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Today marks exactly one month until Christmas Eve, so if you’re planning on mailing out any holiday cards, it’s time to get on it! But this tradition may be losing some of its panache.

Canada Post is trying to bring back the Christmas card, asking when is the last time you put an e-card on your mantle.

“When you get something personal that someone sat down, wrote out and sent to you, it’s a whole lot more personable and more gratifying than just getting a keystroke on a computer,” says John Caines with Canada Post.

Caines tells us a recent survey shows three quarters of us want to send and receive cards over the holidays.

But we found at least one woman who feels the tradition is fading. “I think with our generation, you don’t see that many people mailing out Christmas cards.”

“My grandparents do; it’s still important to them. But with my friends and family, we don’t really send cards out,” she adds.

She says it’s a lot easier to do it online.
