VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s an unconventional pub crawl to help welcome Christmas. The annual SantaCon is underway in Vancouver, filling sidewalks with people in red Santa suits.
Close to 200 participants dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus started out from Broadway and Cambie, with plans to visit a number of bars as they move north into downtown. “It’s just a great time to give back something to the community, sing some carols, and hand out presents,” says one man. “What a great time to start spreading some Christmas cheer. Ho, ho, ho!” says another.
While the event does involve drinking, the Santas say they are out to spread a positive message, and don’t intend to scare children or hassle police.
