Two earthquakes struck the Puerto Rico region early Saturday morning, hitting within mere minutes of each other.

The first quake was reported at a magnitude of 5.1 in the Mona Passage, just west of the island, while the second was reported at a magnitude of 5.3.

The two quakes struck within three minutes of each, and reverberations and after shocks were felt in the Puerto Rican capital.

There were no immediate reports of damage, although some in the area reported broken household items and rolling power outages.

No injuries were reported and there have been no reports of damage in the neighbouring Dominican Republic.
