Tracking Santa’s whereabouts

By

NORTH POLE (NEWS1130) – Where in the world is Santa Claus?  The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) can tell you as it has been tracking Ol’ Saint Nick’s sleigh since 1955.

“I’ve got over 1,200 volunteers today, they’re going to work all day, answering the phones, working the social media and giving children updates,” says General Charles Jacoby.

He says the way folks at NORAD track Santa has evolved quite a bit over the past few years.  “It started out with grease pencils on a plexi-glass map and now it has progressed to Santa Cams and strategic locations.  We’re using our satellites.”

Alain Blondon with NORAD says that technology to track Santa is the same technology used to track missiles.  “Rudolph’s red nose emits infrared energy and that is one of the main features that affords us the opportunity to track Santa’s sleigh.”

Santa’s NORAD Facebook page exceeded 840,000 “likes” by mid-morning.  The tracker is available in as an iPhone app.

Just one of Santa’s many stops.
