VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC Hydro crews have been out all afternoon trying to restore power to thousands of homes around the Lower Mainland. The massive outages are being blamed on heavy winds.
Environment Canada says we can expect gusts between 70 km/h to 90 km/h over the Southern Gulf Islands and across the Lower Mainland.
The Fraser Valley will also feel the effects of a cold front that has moved in, however, winds should taper off late this afternoon to between 30 km/h and 50 km/h. The winds have been so strong that the roof of a Langley barn was blown off.
The north coast will feel southeast winds of 100 km/h on Monday.
