Leave ER space for people who need it: Fraser Health

By

FRASER VALLEY (NEWS1130) – A lot of people are using the ER for prescription refills or check ups because their local walk-in clinic is closed for the holidays. Dr. Craig Murray tells us that’s led to emergency rooms all over the Fraser Health region filling up with people who really don’t need to be there.

He points out the most serious cases are treated first. That means if you’re there for something minor, you’re in for a wait.

“It’s unfortunate, but when the regular providers are closed over the holidays, we do see an influx of people that come in for simple things like prescription renewals,” he explains.

“What people should do is be in contact with 811 (the nurse line) or check on HealthLink BC to see if their symptoms warrant a visit to the emergency room,” he advises.
