Super Bowl XLVI this Sunday

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (NEWS1130) – Are you ready for some Super Bowl football?

From the commercials, to Madonna, to the game itself, this Sunday’s Super Bowl XLVI (46) matchup between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants is expected to attract a super-size audience. It will be broadcast in more than 185 countries and 30 different languages.

At this point, the oddsmakers are favouring the Patriots to win by three points. Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, is a little on-edge though, after losing to the Giants back in 2008. Sunday will be a rematch and his chance for a fourth Super Bowl victory.

The entertainment

The Super Bowl isn’t just about the football; it’s also jam-packed with hot musical acts, including the half-time show featuring Madonna.

Country superstars Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton will sing “America the Beautiful” as part of the pre-game show. Lenny Kravitz is also expected to perform before the big game. Kelly Clarkson will sing the US national anthem.

On the Madonna fan website Madonnarama.com, it was reported she will perform her new single, “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” along with Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., but also past hits including “Ray of Light,” “Vogue,” “Music” and “Holiday.”

Super Bowl calories

While many look forward to the big game, others use it as an excuse to shamelessly stuff their faces full of football food. News1130 counted some calories with the help of Dr. Charles Platkin, the Diet Detective.

If you eat three pigs in a blanket during the game, that’s 66 calories each; you’ll have to play 68 minutes of catch with the pig skin non-stop to burn that off. It would take 1,229 minutes of Tebowing to get rid of the calories in three slices of meat lovers pizza.

A typical meat-laden take-out sub? One hundred and thirteen minutes of chanting, pointing and waving a giant foam finger.

Burning off the calories of one KFC extra crispy chicken breast and one extra crispy drumstick would take 203 touchdown dances in the endzone.

One deviled egg is worth 12 minutes of cheerleading. Ten Lay’s classic potato chips with Kraft French Onion Dip would take 134 minutes of dancing to erase from your waistline.

An estimated 49 million cases of beer were consumed during last year’s Super Bowl. to burn off the calories from six bottles, you’d have to do the wave more than 4,200 times.

Budweiser Canada’s ‘flash fans’ commercial

We may not be able to see all the American Super Bowl ads during the game, but we will be able to watch a touching Canadian commercial by Budweiser.

The company took over an Ontario arena, creating a dream come true for a couple of unsuspecting beer league hockey teams in Port Credit. The teams were suited up, ready to play their weekly game when Budweiser transformed the arena into a spectacle, complete with screaming face-painted fans and play-by-play announcers.

The epic moment was all for Budweiser’s Canadian Super Bowl commercial. The two-minute ad is touching and the expressions on the players’ faces are priceless.
