MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – A terrible crash in Maple Ridge has killed two young people. The teens were involved in the accident around 2:30 this morning on Dewdney Trunk Road and Dunbar Street.

Ridge Meadows RCMP Sgt. Parm Prihar says crash scene was quite chaotic.

“The two dead were in separate cars. There were three people in each vehicle. I believe it was a head on collision.”

One other person is in serious condition, the three others do not have life threatening injuries but are in hospital. Speed is believed to be a factor.

The teens involved in the crash all have ties to Garibaldi Secondary.

Maple Ridge School Superintendent Jan Unwin says the victims, 18-year-old Crystal Weaver and 17-year-old Spencer Dawson, attended classes at Garibaldi and Samuel Robertson Technical.

She says crisis management teams have been activated, and administrators are preparing for Monday morning, to help people cope with the loss.

“We know from just how involved these kids were over the years and some of things that they are still engaged in this will impact many many students and staff, and the community in general.”

Unwin says several of the teens involved in the crash were part of the Garibaldi theatre program.

She adds with social networking, most students are already aware of the tragedy.
