Cost of Missing Women Inquiry grows due to court fees

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The price tag of the Missing Women Inquiry could skyrocket thanks to soaring legal fees for police.  News1130 asked taxpayers if they were OK with footing the multi-million dollar bill, with most people admitting they were all for the proceeding.

“It’s money well spent.  I think it has to be spent.  If you don’t, well, the cops will think they are getting special privileges,” says one man who supports the inquiry.

He explains the probe surrounding Robert Pickton’s murder case can help prevent future serial killers and help improve policing.

One woman agrees, saying you can’t put a price tag on life.  “I don’t know what the limit would be obviously human life is, you know, very invaluable.”

Another woman, who has a personal connection to the commission, says not enough is being done.  “I think they should put more money into it actually.  There are people that are missing.  What if it was their loved ones, they wouldn’t mind kicking in an extra dollar?”

However, the inquiry is not garnering support from every taxpayer.

One man is bothered by the cost of all the legal fees.  “It’s a waste of money.  There’s nothing you can do about it now.  It’s over.”  He suggests the funds could go to violence prevention and education instead.
