A new survey finds that there is one lingering effect of the recession.
More Canadians are taking their lunch to work, instead of ducking out to eat at a cafe or restaurant.
The survey by Technomic found that more than 35 per cent of people have cut back on their food service spending, especially at lunchtime
“Customers are brown bagging it or preparing their lunch at home and taking it to the office or school or wherever they are at during the day, in order to save some money,” said Technomic Director of Consumer Research Sara Monnett.
She says the shift in lunchtime spending has not gone unnoticed and more restaurateurs are modifying their menus to offer more enticing fare.
Monnet says more restaurants are including items on their menu that are not easy to make at home, like soups and salads.
